HBO

The HBO project renovated the top two floors of a five-story building with a dazzling new reception area and double-height atrium under a 1,800 sq. ft. skylight. Two feature stairs were built to facilitate floor-to-floor travel across the building’s wide dimensions.

On the rooftop, supplemental air conditioning was installed to accommodate the large atrium, data center and 40 seat screening theater (which required structural modification for the depressed slab). Perimeter offices were re-released with latching, surface-mounted sliding wood doors with glass lights. Colorful terrazzo flooring, exposed plenum ceilings, and uplight illumination added ambiance, and acoustical cloth ceilings graced the administrative areas and 150 custom millwork workstations.

Six NC rated editing rooms finished out the design challenge of this structure.

ARC principals had been involved with HBO prior to the formation of the company as Consulting Engineers for the Colorado Blvd building in Santa Monica. As the data center and archival and office spaces have grown, ARC has been asked repeatedly to assist in all of the firm’s expansion initiatives.

ARC is very proud of a long relationship with HBO that has been sustained through multiple chapters of HBO leadership on the basis of repeated success and well-oiled channels of communication.
