NBCU – Wilshire Courtyard Master Control UPS Upgrade

ARC Engineering has a long term, ongoing collaboration with NBCUniversal at their main headquarters, the Wilshire Courtyard, and has provided wide-ranging MEP services at this facility located in the Miracle Mile area of Los Angeles.

In 2012, NBCU’s master control UPS system experienced a manufacture-caused catastrophic failure, which affected the live broadcast facility at Wilshire Courtyard. A rental UPS was brought in for backup and ARC provided technical assistance with the temporary transition. Soon thereafter, the master control UPS upgrade began, a six-month process involving strategic planning, design, space conversion and equipment purchase, with the goal of slowly reactivating the new and permanent UPS without any broadcast downtime. Due to the nature of broadcast facility schedules that depend on specific live show broadcasts, there are time frames where no activities are possible within the site. Given these constraints the ARC team and their partner, Matt Construction diligently mapped out the appropriate installation sequence and the final commissioning of the upgraded facilities.

Additionally, other ARC projects in the 400,000 sq. ft. broadcast production facility include infrastructure for the generator distribution upgrade, main server room and radio station upgrades for Ryan Seacrest Radio Station. As NBCU has grown, ARC Engineering has met the need to expand, update, maintain and adapt the Wilshire Courtyard facility, working with an array of architects, contractors, project managers and consultants to provide exceptional service to this key client.
