Southern California Gas Co.

In 2010, Southern California Gas renewed its lease in its 50-story namesake tower at 555 W. 5th Street in downtown Los Angeles and commenced with a 350,000 sq. ft. restack, aimed at making the space more efficient for the 1500 employees at the location.

ARC Engineering designed the new MEP systems for the vast, 5-phase project, which saw the company’s headquarters reconfigured from 15 floors down to 12. Commencing in the basement, and working their way up through the kitchen, cafeteria, main server room, training room and executive spaces, they refined the building’s automated lighting controls and installed high efficiency water and plumbing systems. As a sustainably designed project for which Southern California Gas was seeking LEED Silver certification at minimum, all the MEP systems were designed with energy conservation and flexibility in mind.

The new space features raised-floors throughout and was awarded LEED Gold certification. ARC coordinated with SAA Interior Architects, Corporate Contractors and JLL PM on the 2 year project which finished in February 2012 and was nominated for a 2013 Calibre Award.
